Nutrition and metabolism DNA markers explore selected genetic differences associated with nutrient levels, nutrient utilization, dietary response, and metabolic characteristics. Each card combines a defined panel of variants to estimate a specific genetic tendency, such as vitamin need, iron status, caffeine metabolism, insulin sensitivity, or fatty-acid levels.
What Nutrition and Metabolism DNA Markers Show
Research has identified genetic variants associated with differences in circulating nutrient levels, enzyme function, dietary behavior, absorption, transport, and metabolic response.
Depending on the marker, a result may explore a genetic tendency related to:
vitamins and B vitamins;
minerals such as iron, calcium, magnesium, and selenium;
fatty acids, including omega-3 and omega-6;
choline, coenzyme Q10, and carotenoids;
glucose regulation and insulin sensitivity;
caffeine and alcohol metabolism;
salt sensitivity;
nutrient utilization;
dietary consumption patterns.
A vitamin marker may describe modeled need, while another card may describe a circulating level, metabolic tendency, utilization pattern, or response.

Understanding the Result Categories
Result | Interpretation |
Lower Need | A clear genetic tendency toward lower need |
Slightly Lower Need | A slight genetic tendency toward lower need |
Typical Need | A result within the reference range |
Slightly Increased Need | A slight genetic tendency toward increased need |
Increased Need | A clear genetic tendency toward increased need |
Other marker cards may instead use Lower, Typical, or Higher because they evaluate a level, utilization pattern, metabolic characteristic, or dietary response rather than nutritional need.
Increased Need Does Not Mean Deficiency
A genetic marker cannot determine whether you currently have a nutrient deficiency.
Actual nutrient status may be influenced by:
food intake;
supplement use;
absorption and digestive health;
age, sex, and life stage;
pregnancy;
medications;
medical conditions;
sunlight exposure;
alcohol use;
smoking;
physical activity;
other genetic variants not included in the card.
For example, serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D is used to assess current vitamin D status, while blood markers such as ferritin are used when evaluating iron stores. A raw DNA result cannot replace these measurements.
